Nutrition supplements (Whole Food) vs. Vitamins

Scientific evidence over the last decade has concluded that vitamin pills or capsules are ineffective for filling the nutrition gap that occurs in most of our diets. The reason is vitamin “Supplements” are not  what is needed, but rather concentrated supplements from “whole food”. Vitamins have “x” amount of milligrams of a small number of nutrients, vs thousands of phytonutients aka (plant chemicals) that occur in whole, organic, vine ripened produce. That is what we need the most of  in our diet for optimum health. The best of whole food supplementation that I and more importantly, many health professionals know and use is this. See the video to learn a bit about the extensive independent 3rd party research done on this. No one else has this caliber of research done.

As We Enter the Cold and FLU season....

….something that is important for us all to be doing every day but often don’t is to get proper nutrition. Especially if you work an office it’s often hard to get proper nutrition every day. For many the 9-5 routine is something they only wish they could do, but instead find themselves working many more hours. Not only earlier, but later as well. Then if you have school aged children as well, makes it even tougher, unless you can establish a ritual of healthy eating every day. And then again, what constitutes healthy eating?

Other that proper hydration (Half your body weight in water every day) nutrition is very important for keeping up our immune system. One of the best ways I’ve found to do this is to get the nutrition of 9-13 servings of fresh fruit and veggies everyday without necessarily consuming them. How do you do that?

See this video and let me know if you have any questions:

Who do you believe you are? Are you being true to yourself?

As we enter this Easter Holiday weekend, it is important to remember what the most important part of what Jesus was here to teach us. Love. Unconditional love of ourselves and our neighbor. The passage love your neighbor as you love yourself only works if we truly love ourselves unconditionally. Only then can we in turn love others unconditionally. My love for myself was one reason I felt it necessary to take the next step in my Reiki training and become a Reiki Master.

As I’ve been going through my Reiki Master training, in one of the classes we were discussing ideas for projects using pictures of ourselves to be a part of our change. As Reiki Master’s in training we are aware…….. no more than that, we are expecting change in ourselves. As we go through our training we are doing assignments that make us dig deep within ourselves to bring out more of who we are. Learn more about ourselves as we learn about the teachings to help others. Of course in order for us to help others we need to be more aware of ourselves.

In any case one of the students suggested we take apart our picture, a black and white version and replace pieces of it

with color versions. This idea reminded me of a movie called Pleasantville. Perhaps you’ve heard of it? It’s with Toby McGuire and Reece Witherspoon. A good move that very metaphorically going from a town called Pleasantville that is in the story a TV show from the 50’s which is in Black and White of course. However as the movie progresses people and things become in color. It’s a relevant movie about change. And actually illustrates the concept of what is said will happen in 2012. That the world will change (which we’re experiencing now) to way of doing things different from what and how we do things now. It’s also referred to as the “End of the World……As we know it”. The key words being “As we know it”. This movie as I said illustrates change in how we think, how we perceive things now. We are all experiencing changes, some call it shifting, in ourselves, in our world. How things are done now vs. how they will be done. The biggest thing we can all do to prepare ourselves is to go with the changes we see ourselves faced with. Many try to fight those changes, because we see them as uncomfortable, but in reality these changes can help make us much more comfortable. Much more in allowing who we really are to emerge from who we have been acting like, or who we felt we were. Some of these feelings who we feel we are  came about from what we felt was expected of us from our parents, our loved ones, whoever. The reality is we, each and every one of us has to be living according to who we really are. That maybe be someone you’ve fantasized about being but felt you never could for what ever reason. The reality is you CAN and you MUST allow yourself to be who you are. Those around you who are your real loved ones who are there for your highest good.  Don’t deny it. Allow it. Be who you are. By not doing so you are not only depriving yourself, but depriving those who need who you really are to be available for the purpose you are here for.

Watching this movie may help inspire you. Also to mention again about a workshop coming up next weekend, starting Friday, April 29th called Essence of Being. I recommend two things. Rent Pleasantville and register for this workshop. It can be a huge leap for you to being discovering who you are and get on your true path.

Reiki, Tantra, EOB, Drum Circles, Spirit Dance and more…

I’ve mentioned in a previous post about the different areas of practice I’ve been involved with to increase my consciousness, my awareness, my spiritual growth and become more aware of my gifts as a spiritual being. First let me say, we are all able to do this in whatever way that most resonates with us. I personally am not a big fan of religion but I do not judge those who are religious or just casually practice a religion that truly inspires them to feel comfortable with who they are, love themselves and love others. What really matters is that you operate from your heart and share your love with others through conversation or seeing needs in others and helping fill them if they will allow while respecting those who decline. That is one of the hardest things is when you feel someone needs something that you can provide but they express an unwillingness to accept. What is of the case, even when you feel they need it, they are usually not ready. Also sometimes I’ve found someone struggling with something and for some reason I see it, but don’t recognize it, (my mind wonders or something) then someone else helps them and I initially feel bad that I didn’t do something. But I often realize, that it was not my place to help them, the one who did, was the one who was supposed to, so I should not feel bad that I did not. Remember that every occurrence that happens something else follows in a sequence of events. If that sequence is changed or interrupted it can change the course of events in a dramatic way.

I bring about all this because though some of this I had some awareness of, I did not feel it on a daily basis as I do now. When I started Reiki Circles just a couple years ago, I did not know what Reiki was previous to that. I had never heard of Tantra. Drum circles I’d heard of but had no idea what they were about. Spirit Dance I also hadn’t heard of, nor many of the other spiritual practices I’ve come to love and really resonate with who I am. Before I started Reiki I was definitely not living in my truth, I had much fear in many ways, though I denied it I did have more vanity than I would admit and did have fears about other’s perceptions of me. I was very uncomfortable in my own skin mostly because I was very blocked off, out of touch and had trouble facing who I really was, afraid that who I was I myself could not accept. I had so many conflicts going on within myself that my self love was so far down the toilet and I couldn’t even find my way to the seat from the underside.

Once I went to my first Reiki Circle, down in Miami Beach, that’s when my life began to change. It was first time I feel I experienced unconditional love. I felt very comfortable, that I was with people who wouldn’t judge me. This circle consisted of a guided meditation done by a woman named Lee Ann Ferre. I was so amazed with how well she did this I had to tell her so afterward and I did. Also I learned she came from a Reiki School called Loving Touch Center. At their store, Crystal Vision www.crystalvisionltc.com they do Reiki Circles every Friday and Sunday nights. They also do Monday mornings. At the time though I went with my daughter to the Sunday night ones. After experiencing Reiki circles for about four months I learned that they were doing a Reiki 1 class and I wanted to become a practitioner. After practicing Reiki when attending circles for about 14 months I became aware of so much more. I also had gone to SiddahYoga in Miami, a Tantra Yoga class in Fort Lauderdale done my Nayano Burdine www.tantricalife.com , various drum circles, prayer and spiritdances and met many others in various spiritual circles. In the process of this I connected to so many loving people.

More to come on this…..

Messages for you from Movies, Books, TV, Music and People

Messages that many of us get everyday all day are from our everyday environment like movies, books and songs, and People. One of the things I’ve learned about paying attention to the guidance I receive is sometimes just a pattern of feelings that leads me to an awakening or seeing something from a perspective that hadn’t occurred to me before. In a previous post I mentioned shifting. When ever that happens I experience a shift. One major shift I had was during the

Exercise, Nutrition and Spiritual Energy

The other day I posted my first blog post about spirituality. As a mix for good health with Nutrition and exercise which I’ve been posting for a couple years now.

With my last blog post about sports injuries, or wear and tear when it comes to exercise, it came to be that many feel you can do all the concentrated nutrition and exercise you want and it didn’t stop “someone they know” from getting cancer, Alzheimer’s, or some other deadly disease. I will say that although this is true, I feel the occurrence of the disease likely came about from a stressful scenario in their life that wasn’t resolving. There is a book that I can’t remember the name of that lists a bunch of behaviors or habits that have an amazing cause and effect on the manifestation of disorders. When I looked at the book I was amazed at the examples I found in the cause and effect of the behaviors and habits of my dad, my mom, myself and others and certain ailments that they had. Being aware of these was an eye opening experience to make changes in those areas. However often times knowing of these is not enough. I have also found that getting myself exposed to various energies can help to make the changes or other wise known as shifts. Shifts are something that happen when either we are exposed to different information that helps us to see things in a different way, or and experience that occurs with similar results. I’ve also seen that happen in that one can make pretty immediate changes when just exposed to different spiritual energies. When I say energy I am not referring to when someone feels a lot of energy they feel like doing a lot of activity. Another way to put it would be to refer to these energies as frequencies or vibrations. As you know vibrations and frequencies are all around us, though many associate those as the electronic ones we are bombarded with every day, I’m referring to the natural ones. There are vibrations that all matter have. As we know all matter is made up of molecules and the only difference between say air and a table are the frequencies that they vibrate at. Well these spiritual energies come about as a result of what some people can bring about and what can just be called upon by us. Remember we are all spiritual beings here in our bodies to fulfill a purpose.

Many of us have difficulty finding our passions because we’ve become so accustomed to not really enjoying life but just surviving. Know that you are here to do more than just survive, you are here to really enjoy living your passions. Another method I was made aware of by a few of my spiritual friends is a workshop called EOB or “Essence of Being”, This is an incredible workshop which is facilitated by a woman named Burge Smith Lyons and is an incredible person in my opinion. This workshop is one in which you interact with others doing different exercise of interactivity, questions are asked of you and those you do this with which is an incredible experience. They use a number of techniques, many of which I’ve seen and used before but combine them in such a way to really help you to get to the root of many of the things that are troubling you in life. It helps you learn to take control of your life. As I say, we are all here for a purpose and if you’re not sure what tat is, I recommend taking this workshop. Get more info at www.Essenceofbeing.com or check out the FB invite http://www.facebook.com/#!/event.php?eid=147990078592813 assuming you’re on FaceBook. If you’re not let me know, I’d be happy to provide info to this amazing experience.

That is why we are all here. The only thing we need to do is make yourself aware of that purpose and to go about executing it. Sound simple right? Obviously not since many of us are clueless as to what that purpose is that we’re supposed to fulfill. What it comes down to is our passions. Whatever it is that makes you feel good, feel alive, that is where you should be and what you should be doing. If you love what you do, it makes life much easier. Some of us are still searching and still feel clueless, or find what makes us feel great or have trouble finding how to make it our livelihood. Usually when we have trouble either finding our passions or finding how to make it our livelihood is due to fear. Fear that we’re not good enough with our passions to charge people for it. However the reality is that we are indeed good enough for those who need our help, our guidance, our talents that we do not realize the benefits we provide. Another issue with this is to allow. Allow yourself to be available to those who need what you are passionate about, Who are more than willing to pay a good price to receive what you have to offer.

The bottom line here is, Taking good care of your body and exercising regularly for optimum health are all useless if we are not fulfilling our passions. It is said that man does not LIVE on food and water alone. Love is a part of that and Love is the most powerful energy in the universe. If we don’t have a love for what we do and we don’t give and share love in our day to day lives being involved and doing, following our passions, then we are not fulfilling the purpose our spirit put us here for in the first place and it may be your spirit manifesting the disease because you are wasting time by not fulfilling your purpose.

As I said in that previous post as well I have discovered that fulfilling your spirit’s purpose for putting you here, is actually more important the nutrition and exercise. Though doing both of those I feel will make you more productive in fulfilling your purpose. Personally I feel promoting nutrition and exercise is part of my purpose, The other is working with people to help them resolve who they are and why their here. Which is why I feel I was led to Reiki., Tantra and the other spiritual practices I’m involved with that all resonate with me so much and makes me grateful to have found my place.

Hydration, Hydration, Hydration…again

I posted this last year at this time, but felt it was worth repeating.

It’s really hot out there. But what else is new for summer time. Here down in South Florida it’s not only the heat, but the humidity making it difficult to stand outside for more than 5 minutes without starting to sweat. Unless you’re in a shaded breeze, then maybe 10 minutes:)

In any case hydration is extremely important. Unfortunately hydrating is difficult for those who don’t like to drink water, which is for the most part the BEST hydration. Notice I said, “for the most part”? Research done at University of Aberdeen Medical School http://www.impactlab.com/2009/07/19/some-fruit-and-vegetables-can-hydrate-you-more-than-a-glass-of-water/ shows that some fruits and vegetables contain the ultimate mix of minerals, salts sugar and amino acids to more effectively hydrate than just water or even sports drinks. The key is fruits and vegetables are from nature, sports drinks are not.

As for water it is often said that say 8 of 8 oz glasses of water each day is what you need. The problem with that is you need a certain amount depending on your body size. So the rule of thumb is take your body weight and divide it by 2.  That is the number of ounces of “water” you should consume everyday. I specify water because no other beverage should be considered for strictly hydration. I’ve had some ask me about milk. Absolutely not. In fact even though you drink milk like a beverage, chemically it’s a food and should not be thought of as hydration. Of course coffee can not since that will actually dehydrate you, as will sodas. I often hear or read about how good a cold one. Too bad they mean beer instead of water.

Something that a lot of people also do not realize with regard to hydration is certain health issues being caused or at least related to insufficient daily hydration. Since our body is mostly water, lack of sufficient hydration can cause a multitude of health issues. So with more adequate hydration, you may be able to greatly reduce some health issues you’re dealing with and not just some obvious ones like constipation.

Would love to hear your comments.
